संस्कृतगद्यपद्यकाव्यरचनास्पर्धा - Creative Sanskrit Composition in Prose and Verse

Saṁskṛta saṅgha invites the Sanskrit community of Bangalore to participate in the second "संस्कृतगद्यपद्यकाव्यरचनास्पर्धा - Creative Sanskrit Composition in Prose and Verse" event to be organised in the month of December 2009 at IISc Bangalore. Participants are given an opportunity to present their skills in writing Sanksrit poetry both in prose and verse. This event was organised for the first time in March 2008 in which people from various institutes in Bangalore like Poorna Prajna Vidyapeetham, Uttaradi Mutt, Veda Vijnana Gurukulam and Indian Institute of Science have actively participated. Encouraged by last year's success this year also the event is being conducted, the details of which are given below. In addition this year ONLINE PARTICIPATION is also open. Sanskrit enthusiasts are welcome to participate and share the spirit of creative writing in Sanskrit.

Time : Writing Verse - 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM
Writing Prose - 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM

Rules of the event
1) Participants should be within 30 years of age.
2) Topics for composing prose and verse will be announced on the spot.
3) The verses should be written following the rules of Chandas (Prosody). Participants are free to choose the Chandas. The number of verses is limited to 12 (twelve). The participants of verse-composition shall also complete one "samasyāpūranam" within the stipulated time. The "samasyā" will also be given on the spot.
4) The number of words in prose is limited to 500 (five hundred).
5) Participants can bring Shabda Kosha and Dhathu Kosha along with them. Kosha will be provided by the organizers also.
6) Interested persons can register by sending their details, viz. Name, Date of Birth, Qualification, Place of study/work, Contact address, Phone number and E-mail ID (if any) along with a recent passport size photograph to the following address by post:

Last date for registration is 12th December 2009.
7) Participants are requested to be present at the venue 20 minutes before the scheduled time.
The entries will be reviewed by eminent Sanskrit scholars and their judgement will be final.
Prizes
- The best writing in prose and verse will individually be awarded Rs. 1000/- along with a certificate.
- Consolation prizes may be given according to the quality of the entries.
- The best writing in prose and verse will be published in संस्कृतिः २०१०, the annual magazine of saṁskṛta saṅgha, IISc.
ONLINE PARTICIPATION
On the day of the event, as soon as the topics for prose and verse composition are revealed, the same will be posted on the website. Participants who are unable to be physically present on the day of the event but would be interested in taking part can mail their compositions to the under mentioned. Entries submitted online will not be considered for award of prizes. However, the worthy prose and verse compositions will be published in the annual magazine of saṁskṛta saṅgha, संस्कृतिः २०१०.
